Slowly, Roku exited his tent in the deep forest below the mountain which his home village, Kumogakure was perched upon. It was early morning, a few hours before sunrise. The air was frigid because of the depth of the valley he was in, in addition to the fact that the sun would only rise about an hour before midday because of the altitude of the terrain surrounding him. As he pulled his sneakers on, Roku hobbled over to a pouch he had tied up and hung from a tree the night before so as to prevent animals raiding it and pulled out a few strips of pork jerky.

Roku shoved them, wrapped in cloth, in the left pocket of his black sweat pants and reached back in his tent to grab his grey cotton t-shirt, dawning it while walking toward a clearing. He knew this forest quite well because it was where he conducted all of his training. As he trekked he paid close attention to the small amount of activity in the forest, probably attributed to the cold and darkness. After a few short moments, Roku arrived at the clearing he had set as his destination. Around him were trees, charred on some sides because of his training the previous days.

Roku now took the first step to his training, or, more accurately, attaining a bit of comfort. He performed hand seals that would normally constitute the Fire Release: Great Fireball technique, though he never actually let the technique release from his mouth into its given form. He, instead, controlled the chakra as he threaded it from the pit of his stomach throughout his body and immediately felt a sense of relief as his goosebumps receded and his body began to warm because of the Fire Release chakra. He kept this process up, repeating it for a few minutes untill his body was of a comfortable temperature.

For much of the hours now to come, Roku did the same thing, over and over. He launched his fire techniques at the trees around him, slowly making his clearing bigger. This clearing was not here before Roku made it from his training. As the day progressed, Roku made an effort to keep his techniques more concentrated. Rather than just expelling wild chakra from his mouth, Roku made an attempt to thread it with precision and accuracy. He made an attempt to condense it as well, so that the point of contact with the technique would be dealt a fair amount more of damage.

It was now about midday, and Roku wasn't even half through his training. He spent the next bit of time, after he ate the remaining jerky in his pocket, applying shape transformation to his techniques. He tried regurgitating his Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique in more a shape of a spear rather than a giant ball. The effect was noticeable, but it was simply elliptical rather than a complete spear. Still, he progressed, and as the sun fell once more, he returned to his camp site satisfied of his day's work. He wasn't completely physically exhausted like after most days of training though. Today was more a day of control rather than power.

When Roku stirred himself from sleep the next morning, there was frost on the flaps of his tent and frozen dew on top of it. The grass beneath his feet crunched as the ice and frozen dew was subject to his footfalls. He went through his usual routine of grabbing food and dressing himself, more hastily this time as the cold hit him harder when he clumsily climbed out of his sleeping bag. His skin stung this morning from the cold, so he reached into his rucksack in his tent and grabbed a hoodie to do his training in this morning. No doubt he'd take it off after a few minutes of training, but it was good to have during his morning routine.

Roku re-ignited the fire a few feet from his tent using the smoldering coals in the bottom of the fire, and when he was satisfied of its life and strength, he began his trek to the clearing that he'd been practicing his Ninjutsu in. Roku stared up at Kumogakure, which could be seen high above him through small holes in the canopy of leaves, and he could already tell it was bustling with life. Early risers were probably on their way to work right about now and factories were starting up. He felt a sense of pride at the commercial wealth and high standard of living one could enjoy in his village, and a rare smile crossed his lips and revealed the gleaming white teeth, healthier than almost anyone else's teeth because of the strength of the Shikotsumyaku within him.

Roku arrived at his training ground and took in the damage of what he had done the night before. There was little to no grass now, all scorched away by the flailing of his Fire Release techniques. There were shattered trees at the outer edge of the clearing from the minor explosions as well. The bark was scorched, and there was little to no undergrowth, nor was there any moss on the trees. The canopy was thinner because many of the leaves had burnt. The ground beneath him was hard even though it should be soft with the night's precipitation, presumably because of the extreme heat from his Fire Release.

Once more, Roku's hands flew into action. He started release Fire Release techniques, mostly Fire Release: Great Fireball technique. He made attempts to manipulate the shape transformations of the techniques, and after a few hours, when the sun rose, he was able to for intricate shapes with the flame. His favorite was a 6-pointed star, so he tended to do that one more often. Others included cubes, prisms, and rings. It was apparent that Roku wouldn't be able to keep up the flailing of Fire Release techniques forever. Try as he might, he soon found him sweating and near exhaustion.

Though he was near the point of collapse, Roku somehow found bliss in his endeavor to expend as much chakra as possible. As a result, about 45 minutes after he'd began pushing so hard, Roku passed out of exhaustion. It was probably not safe to sleep here, but he had no control over it. He'd be lucky to wake up the next morning without something alone the lines of frostbite, or at the very least a fairly low body temperature. The cold wasn't extreme enough to do this to him in a fully rested state, but with his exhaustion, something may just happen...

Roku opened his eyes, but because of the light he immediately closed them again. He blinked them open, only slightly at first, until his eyes adjusted to the light of the room he was in. He was not garbed in his own clothes, rather a thin, cloth gown. He was alone in a room laying in a bed and there was a plate of food on a table next to the bed he'd been sleeping on. A bit confused at first, Roku looked around, and though he was still quite hazy, he recognized the hospital equipment and the view outside. As the observations dawned on him, he realized he was in a Kumogakure hospital, and he became even more confused. Why was he in a hospital?

His lips parted and a smooth, even voice emerged from his throat as he called for a nurse. "Nurse? Nurse! Come here!"

Almost immediately, an attractive young lady with dark skin opened the door to Roku's hospital room, looking slightly alarmed. "Are you ok?"

"What? No, yeah, I'm fine."

"Did you need something?"

"Yeah, I wanted to know how I got here."

The nurse walked over to Roku and picked up a file next to his untouched plate of food, which made him realize he was actually starving. He picked up his plate and began to eat as he listened. "Oh, you're Roku Kaguya. Yeah, a hunter brought you in when he found you unconscious in the woods. You've been unresponsive and almost completely exhausted. How are you feeling?"

Speaking around the last bite of corn in his mouth, Roku answered. "I'm fine. Am I clear to train?"

"No, the doctors say you should- hey what are you doing?" Roku had not waited for an answer, but rather began changing into his clothes right in front of the woman with no real modesty. She began to tell him he couldn't leave, but he was already out of the window and on his way to the Kumogakure training grounds. When Roku arrived, he paused a moment to take in his surroundings. He had not been to these training grounds since he was a Genin by the order of his brother. He preferred to train away from others because he did not want to show weakness in front of them, and if one trained properly, he'd seem weak in front of others because he was constantly trying something new. However, it was late evening so no one was here.

The ground he was standing on was a peculiar type of stone, cracked in wide lines because of the popularity of Raiton in Kumogakure and its strength against rock. The ground he stood on was a ring, about 15 yards in diameter. There were yellow steps that one would use to get into the ring, raised about 6 feet above the ground because this was also used as a place where shows were held between fighting Shinobi for entertainment. It was also warmer here because the place actually got sunlight, and it was evident that it was mid-Summer.

Roku had a new goal today. He could easily perform most jutsu, and he could manipulate their shapes a bit. His next goal was concision. Rather, to be able to perform these jutsu with enough skill that they require less chakra. So, he began to weave his hand seals and use less chakra in his jutsu. For the first 3 hours of training, he was completely unsuccessful. Not a single technique was executed. However, after he struggled for a little longer, Roku had a breakthrough.

The thought occurred to Roku maybe he shouldn't just use less chakra. Maybe he should weave it more precisely was well, more compact and dense. Keeping this in mind, his first atempt was still unsuccessful. However, with his third, a spark erupted from his mouth when performing the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique. Comically, it resembled vomit because of how hard he forced it out. However, as the night progressed, he eventually became more adept at the practice.

By Midnight, Roku was able to perform fully powered techniques with about 70% the chakra he'd used before. He was sure that given enough practice he could reduce this by even more, but the exhaustion he'd felt before he'd passed out became more pronounced and obvious to him. Quite satisfied and happy with his progress, Roku began his trek home. It was about a half mile away so he only walked for no more than 5 minutes. He immediately walked upstairs to his bedroom and collapsed fully clothed in his bed. He fell asleep quickly with a smile on his face, conviced he'd reached a new level of skill.
